Recognition Societies

South Mountain Society

Recognizing those who pride themselves on supporting Lehigh year after year.

South Mountain Society

South Mountain is home to Lehigh University. It is the bedrock of our grounds and the place where Lehigh was founded through a singular act of magnanimous philanthropy in 1865. It is iconic of our strength and stability.

For that reason, it is a fitting name for a society recognizing consecutive giving and the loyalty of donors. The South Mountain Society celebrates donors who make gifts year after year, providing a powerful foundation from which Lehigh can support critical aspects of the student experience.

Lehigh Loyals

Loyal giving drives Lehigh’s momentum forward and shapes the lives of students on campus and long after they graduate.

Staying consistent is the key to making progress, as anyone who practices a skill knows. From the stage to the field, continued action and effort drives impactful change. It is no different at Lehigh.

When you make a gift from year to year, you join a large and motivated community to make big changes on campus. Annual giving not only underscores the community’s sense of Lehigh pride, but it also looks boldly ahead and plans its future.

Did you know that over 3,000 loyal donors have made a gift every single year of GO: The Campaign for Lehigh? It’s true! These loyal donors cross all class years and hail from almost 50 states and from many countries around the world.

Like many things in life, collective effort fuels impact and moves organizations forward.
Gifts may be individual, but their impact is felt by all. By pooling our resources, rising to the challenge, and harnessing Lehigh pride, our community creates tangible differences at Lehigh and motivates others to follow their lead.

Did you know that 62.93% of all gifts to GO: The Campaign for Lehigh so far have come from people offering support of $100 or less? Our campaign represents what is possible when we come together. That’s something to celebrate!

Impact

$24,452,383 by South Mountain Society donors as of fiscal year-end on June 30, 2023.

Building a Lifelong Lehigh

Imagine a vibrant community rallying behind you, sharing in your successes, and encouraging you every step of your Lehigh journey. You give that gift to many of our exceptional students. We are excited to share how the South Mountain Society's top three areas of support are changing lives at Lehigh and beyond.

Financial Aid and Scholarship

"Being a scholarship recipient, I feel that Lehigh’s donors’ generosity and belief in me have struck a chord. While I am a physics major, I have been able to pursue a minor in music due to the encouragement provided by Lehigh’s donors. Additionally, connecting with alumni directly while working for Lehigh Liners is very rewarding. I’m grateful to see how much the donors care about the institution and its current students. These kind acts from Lehigh’s donors deeply inspire me to pass on the philanthropy they have provided me and my community."

Lehigh Fund

"It has been my pleasure to support Lehigh throughout the years since I have such great memories of my time in Bethlehem. It was a great academic experience, and I developed lifetime friendships and now look forward to attending reunions. I know that my contributions are greatly appreciated by Lehigh and helping current and future students."

Dean’s Fund for Athletics Excellence

"This fund helps sustain our athletic programs and provides a quality and equitable experience for all of our student-athletes. It supports an array of activities that enhances the holistic growth and development of our student-athletes, including resources for sports performance, leadership development, academic support, and sports medicine teams. All of these areas play a pivotal role in our student-athlete preparation, development, and success while empowering them to develop into the best version of themselves."
