Renovations to the iconic Clayton University Center (UC) at Packer Hall will create a dynamic environment for student life while preserving the building’s historic grandeur. Thank you to all the generous donors who are helping to make the Clayton UC a vibrant space for everyone in the Lehigh community.
For Sarat Sethi ’92, the journey from India to a prominent position in finance exemplifies the power of education and community. Currently a managing partner at Douglas C. Lane & Associates (DCLA), Sethi’s professional achievements are matched by his commitment to Lehigh University, where he has established deep roots and a lasting impact.
Early Life and Education
Sethi was born in India and later moved to northern New Jersey, where he completed high school. His connection to Lehigh University began early, influenced by his brother, Akhil Sethi ’87 ’23P.
"I started going to Lehigh in 1983 to visit my brother and have been on campus every year since — 41 years," Sethi reflects. His early experiences at Lehigh laid the groundwork for a lifelong relationship with his alma mater.
Sethi pursued an accounting major at Lehigh, where he appreciated both the academic rigor and vibrant social life. He recalls, “I met some great professors, made lasting friendships, and the whole experience really prepared me for my life after college.” After graduating, Sethi continued his education at Harvard Business School, and then embarked on a successful career at firms like PricewaterhouseCoopers and JP Morgan.
“The UC has always been the center of everything at Lehigh. As the world changes, it’s become even more important to have a hub for student activity.”
With over 25 years at DCLA, Sethi has established himself as a respected leader in finance. He has been on Lehigh’s Board of Trustees for 17 years and currently serves on the Executive Committee, Finance Committee, Compensation subcommittee, and as chair of the Committee on Nominations and Trusteeship. He has previously served as a member of the Audit, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Finance Committees, and as chair of the Investment Committee.
Sethi is past president of the Alumni Association. He served on the College of Business Dean’s Advisory Council and is a member and chair of the Martindale Center Advisory Committee. His extensive involvement with the university reflects his belief in the transformative power of education.
A Commitment to Community
Sethi's recent generous donation to the renovations of the Clayton UC is a testament to his dedication to Lehigh's future, enhancing a crucial space for future generations of students. He describes his relationship with Kevin Clayton ’84 ’13P, the UC’s namesake and former chair of the board of trustees, stating, “I’ve valued Kevin’s friendship and mentorship for a long time, and I know the UC is very important to him.”
For Sethi, supporting the UC is not just about honoring a friend; it’s about enhancing a crucial space for future generations of students. “The UC has always been the center of everything at Lehigh,” he explains. “As the world changes, it’s become even more important to have a hub for student activity.” His vision for the renovated UC is to create an inviting space where students can interact socially and academically, fostering a sense of community and belonging on campus. In recognition of his contribution, Sethi’s name will appear on a plaque outside the UC’s Upper Tower Room.
Lasting Lessons from Lehigh
Reflecting on his Lehigh experience, Sethi emphasizes the skills he gained that have shaped his career. “Lehigh taught me not just to work hard, but in a smart and efficient manner. I learned to think critically and to collaborate with others. Lehigh taught me to be a leader. These lessons have been invaluable.”
