How to Host an Event
Identify a volunteer opportunity appropriate for a group of 5-15 alumni at an area nonprofit, such as a food bank or a park cleanup. Research if that organization has projects for your group.
Projects can be:
- Sorting items at a local food bank
- Conducting a local park cleanup
- Painting a mural at a school

Rather just gather with alumni for a good cause? Plan a networking event, such as a happy hour, where you can collect donations to support Lehigh students.
If you have decided on a volunteer project, project leaders will serve as the main liaison between the nonprofit and alumni volunteers. Discuss opportunities with that organization and confirm logistical details including project description, project name, capacity, date, start time, end time, needed materials, directions, attire, and any possible organizational requirements, like waivers or clearances. Share logistical details with your alumni relations contact.
If you have decided on a networking event, find a place to gather and determine what Lehigh student cause you’d like to support. Gather details that others will need, like location, directions, date and time, attire, cost, and donation, and share them with your alumni relations contact.
A member of the Alumni Relations team will respond within two to three business days and confirm next steps and ways to engage a broader group of alumni in your area.
Alumni relations staff will create registration pages and take care of promoting the events through targeted emails to alumni in your area, social media posts, and stories in emails to all alumni, like the Digital Dose and Lehigh Monthly. You can help us spread the word by forwarding links to these events and stories to your fellow alumni via text, email, and social media.
Alumni relations staff will provide you with a registration list, name tags, and some Lehigh gear prior to the event. On the day of the event, project leaders will connect with the nonprofit organizer, check in with participants, distribute swag, take photos, share images with us, post on your social media using the hashtag #LehighInAction, and provide the impact stats and attendance to alumni relations staff.
