What we now know as Goodman Stadium did not exist at one point. Instead, Taylor Stadium was the home of Lehigh Football — and Lehigh Baseball, Lacrosse, and Soccer if you can believe it!

Constructed in 1914, Taylor Stadium stood on the corner of Taylor Street and Packer Avenue. Fun fact: The last game played at Taylor Stadium was the 123rd meeting of the Lehigh-Lafayette Rivalry game on November 21, 1987. Lehigh defeated the Leopards 17-10!

But since recent graduates and current students never experienced the glory days of Taylor Stadium, we asked Lehigh alumni how they would describe Taylor Stadium.

The booth at Taylor Stadium in 1987
  1. “It was small, old, and LOUD. But we loved it. Maybe because of that it had this incredible small school feel. But the energy always felt electric.” -Stacy L.
  2. “One solid piece of concrete.” -Daniel W.
  3. “We could walk out of our dorm and be there in 5 minutes or less. No bus or car required.” -Ken S.
  4. “There was nothing like football in Taylor Stadium in the middle of campus; the cannon would go off at each touchdown, and the cheerleaders did a bow on the goal line for each point scored.” -Kathleen R.
  5. “A place where memories were made!” -Andy C.
  6. “The stands were located as close to the football field as they could possibly be. Fans would stomp their feet in unison on the "upper deck," and we'd watch the press box shake.” -Joe D.
  7. “Crusty but beloved.” -Bob S.
