Lehigh Asian Alumni Network (LAAN)

In 2020, a small group of Asian alumni met with senior staff to discuss their hopes for greater representation for the Asian members of the Lehigh family. After surveying all alumni identified as Asian (including those with origins in the Far East, Southeast Asia, or Indian subcontinent), Lehigh realized just how many Asian alumni would like to represent their culture both on campus and off. Following the survey, the Lehigh Asian Alumni Network was born.

The Lehigh Asian Alumni Network (LAAN) strives to support each other and the university through personal and professional initiatives, as well as virtual events and in-person gatherings.

The Lehigh Asian Alumni Network (LAAN) was formed in 2020 after several meetings with Asian alumni and senior staff, and after a survey to all alumni identified as Asian (including alumni having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent) revealed a lot of interest.

Specifically, the Asian community said that we’d like to support each other and the university around:

• Career development
• Networking and social connection opportunities
• Community Engagement with students, and other Lehigh volunteers

The plan is to start with a few online events featuring Asian alumni or faculty, then meet up at the Lehigh vs. Lafayette game in November, under the all-alumni tailgate tent, as our first in-person gathering.

The LAAN facilitates many ways for alumni and students to connect with fellow Asian members of the Lehigh family. Alumni can network with other Asian alumni or even sign up to mentor Asian students.
