Lehigh alumni can be found in every corner of the globe — especially Florida! Nearly 90 alumni and friends gathered in Sarasota and Palm Beach on February 5 and 7, respectively, to hear about Lehigh’s strategic plan from President Joseph J. Helble '82. He and Anand Jagota, vice provost for research and the Robert W. Wieseman 1916 Professor of Bioengineering and of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, discussed Lehigh’s impact in research, one of the four themes of the strategic plan.

Helble elaborated that we must set ourselves apart, invest in our points of distinction, and lead. He told the audience that alumni will have an opportunity to provide feedback on the strategic plan soon.

Attendees enjoyed the Q&A not only about the emerging ideas related to the strategic plan, but also disruptions like ChatGPT and other issues facing American higher education.

Attendees also learned details of Lehigh’s newly relaunched recognition programs: The South Mountain Society, Brown and White Society, Asa Packer Society, Tower Society, and 1865 Society. The societies celebrate and recognize the generosity of Lehigh’s alumni and friends, whose enduring support advances the university’s mission.

Considering that philanthropy not only moves us closer to our goals, but also sends an important message about alumni confidence, commitment, and dedication to Lehigh, it was exciting to share news of relaunched recognition societies and celebrate those in attendance, many of whom have been engaged and generous donors for decades.
